The German wind industry takes a breather

The figures for onshore wind in Germany show a downturn in the first six months of this year. Despite this, the trade associations predict a net additional installation for the whole of 2015 of at least 4,000 megawatts, which would make climate goals achievable.

Onshore wind energy 2014: Record 4,750 megawatt rise in installations in Germany

Additional volume is due to the allocation of land and the special political situation in Germany in the previous years. Number of turbines dismantled and replaced has also reached an all-time high. German wind industry well positioned in booming global market. Reliable political framework needed for continued expansion in order to meet government targets.

Offshore wind power: growth continues

As the latest statistics show, the first round of projects worth some three gigawatts by the end of 2015 is well underway. Germany’s new Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) provides planning security for the second stage as well to provide up to some 6.5 gigawatts by 2020. But the associations are nonetheless keeping close watch of Berlin. Construction of turbines must go hand-in-hand with offshore grid connections from now on.
